The 97-year-old star has given his story of what happened after his involvement in a single-car accident in Malibu, California.
Dick Van Dyke has broken his silence after he crashed his car in the rain on March 15.
The Hollywood star, 97, reportedly crashed after his driving vehicle ‘lost control’ and smashed into a gate in the exclusive Californian neighborhood.
The actor informed police he had skidded in the rain and was unable to prevent his car, a 2018 Lexus LS 500, from crashing when they got on the scene and discovered him behind the wheel.
Van Dyke told reporters on March 25 that he was ‘sore all over’ after ‘face-planting into his steering wheel’ in his first public appearance since the collision.
When discussing the terrifying incident, the actor, who needed two stitches after suffering a terrible lip laceration, was cheerful. When asked how his recovery was going, he told the photographers, “I’m fine, just sore all over.” “The airbag did not deploy, so I just did a face plant right into the steering wheel,” he claimed.
He pointed to his mouth and remarked, “So I have two stitches here, but other than that, it just made me a little dumber.”
The actor continued by making a joke about his age.
He stated, “I’m 97,” before jokingly adding, “All my friends are dead.”
When questioned by reporters about how he was doing, the actor responded, “I’m having fun,” before thanking his wife, Arlene Silver, 51, for taking care of him and saying that “without her” he “probably would be dead.”
According to US news sites, the actor’s wife has reportedly taken his car keys away out of concern for his safety.
According to a source, the actor may no longer be seen by neighbors when driving.
According to an unnamed insider, “Dick has reached the point where he needs to be taken off the road — for his safety and the safety of others.”
The insider continued, “Arlene is scared that it might already be too late if she doesn’t take the keys away now.”
Ten years had passed since Dick Van Dyke had been saved from his flaming Jaguar on a Los Angeles freeway in 2013.
Jason Pennington, a bystander, told TMZ he was traveling down the road when he saw a car that had pulled over to the side of the road with a fire in it.
Jason pulled acting veteran Van Dyke, 87, from the burning car after noticing the elderly guy attempting to escape when he stopped.
