However, when Mercy Casanalles, a new mother from Texas, saw the baby the doctors handed her in 2015, she immediately wanted a DNA test to prove that the baby she just delivered wasn’t really hers! After months of conflicted feelings and internal arguments, she finally caved and had ‘her’ child tested.
Mercy Casanalles met her husband at a missionary school. She lived in Texas using a temporary visa, so when she got pregnant, she knew that she had to go back to her home in El Salvador. Her husband decided to stay in the United States until his wife could join him once again.
Mercy delivered her baby and told the nurses that the baby that was handed to her was not her son.
Mercy just knew in her mind and body that something wasn’t right with the baby and that he just couldn’t be her own child. She didn’t have a lot of evidence to offer to the nurses except for her instincts, so she took the little boy home with her.
After Mercy got home with her baby, she just couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right. A few months went by, and Mercy decided to have a DNA test done to prove that the baby wasn’t hers, something that is usually not heard of from mothers who give birth. When Mercy got the results back of the DNA test, she was shocked to read the results.
The baby who was supposed to be Mercy’s was not her son! Mercy and her husband had grown close to the baby and didn’t know how they were going to proceed.
They decided to give the baby back to his real parents, but they wanted to know where their baby was if the boy wasn’t theirs.
Government officials fought against Mercy and her husband when they finally found their son, but they were soon able to get the necessary documents so that they could all live together in Texas.
